Essays on Teaching, Learning, & Multiple Intelligences

Monday, April 13, 2009

I recently came across two very interesting essays by Joan Walton presenting research on the connections between the teaching and learning of social dance and the theory of multiple intelligences. They also explore the relationship between logical/mathematical and bodily/kinesthetic intelligences. Though written ten years ago, both essays offer some great insight into the learning and teaching of social dance. Of particular interest to dance instructors is Walton’s exploration of what she terms intuitive teaching. Both of these essays are worth a read. You can find them at the links below.

Engineering + Social Dance, by Joan Walton (1998)

Enjoy!
