Links, Links, and More Links

Filed under Joy in Motion News on Saturday, February 20, 2010

I have recently added several more sites to the Links section of Joy in Motion. They have been added to the Salsa & Social Latin Dance, Argentine Tango, Lindy Hop, and Blues Dancing categories. Special thanks to my friends at Dance Forums and SalsaForums for informing me of several of these websites and blogs.

I am always looking for more valuable sites and articles on all aspects of social partner dancing, so please send me your favorites. Individual articles of interest are posted on Joy in Motion’s Facebook page (become a fan below if you haven’t already) and on the Resources page. You may have noticed that the Resources section is under construction; please check back for updates and send me your suggestions.

Enjoy!

Send Joy in Motion to Buenos Aires!

I’ve just created my dream vacation with Gap Adventures: 16 days in Buenos Aires to study Argentine tango in its world capital. After years of dancing tango and writing about its alluring qualities, including connection, musicality, and flow, I would love to travel and experience more of the dance and what makes it so unique. If you vote for my adventure and make it a reality, you will be able to read about my experiences on Gap Adventures as well as the Joy in Motion website.

Please vote - and please share it on Facebook to get others to vote - now through the end of March. Gap Adventures offers many exciting trips, but let’s put some dance adventures on their map! Thank you all for your support!

Unstoppable: A Dose of Inspiration

Filed under Items of Interest on Thursday, January 28, 2010

A fellow dancer recently recommended to me Cynthia Kersey’s book, Unstoppable: 45 Powerful Stories of Perseverance and Triumph from People Just Like You. I am not usually big on motivational books; I tend to be pretty self-motivated and independent. But I found this book at my local library and just couldn’t put it down. The book is comprised of seven sections, each devoted to a principle that contributes to a person reaching their goals and being successful and fulfilled. Along with Kersey’s own writing on these principles are success stories that illustrate the seven principles. Among them are stories behind the success of well-known names like Columbia Sportswear, Habitat for Humanity International, Kinko’s, and The Body Shop. The stories are enjoyable and inspirational to read. Many of the principles are consistent with how I have achieved success in areas of my life, and Kersey’s chapter on building a team motivated me to improve more in this area when it comes to my own writing and dancing goals. I would like to quote Kersey’s seven principles here to give you an idea of what you will find in this book should you choose to read it, which I highly recommend you do…

“Unstoppable people:

1. Devote themselves to their true purpose
2. Follow their heart’s passion
3. Believe in themselves and their ideas
4. Prepare for challenges
5. Ask for help and build a support team
6. Seek creative solutions
7. Persevere, no matter what the challenges [emphasis hers]”

You can find Cynthia Kersey’s book in the Joy in Motion Dance & Music Resources Store.
